A Volume Conduction Approach to Operate a Passive RFID Tag on Metallic Implants

چکیده
This paper presents a method of using volume conduction for communication with implanted passive RFID tags. Based on electrode coupling, this method uses mainly electric field to transmit signal through tissue, and therefore can reduce the interference with metallic implants when RFID tags are attached to the implants. Exterior and interior electrodes are designed for efficient energy and signal transmission. Experiments with a saline box are conducted to study the signal attenuation through biological tissue and the feasibility of using volume conduction for RFID tags close to in vivo metallic materials. Keywords-implanted RFID; volume conduction; metallic interference

Analysis of Low Profile UHF RFID Tag Antennas and Performance Evaluation in Presence of a Metallic Surface
Passive UHF RFID systems have drawn considerable attention because these can provide a long reading range, high data rate and small antenna size. However, a passive UHF RFID system has challenges in tagging a metallic object due to the effects of conducting materials on the tag antenna performance. This paper proposes two widely used label-type antennas: folded dipole antenna and meandered dipo...

In this paper, an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) base band processor for a passive tag is presented. It proposes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag digital base band architecture which is compatible with the EPC C C2/ISO18000-6B protocol. Several design approaches such as clock gating technique, clock strobe design and clock management are used. In order to reduce the area Decimal Matrix C...
متن کاملSmall Wideband RFID Tag Antenna Mountable on Metallic Surfaces
The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system has recently become very popular in many industries. Inductively-coupled short-range RFIDs have already been used, but the demand for long-range identification has increased. Consequently, the RFID frequency has gone into the microwave region, which means that the tag antenna design has become an important factor in maximizing the read range of t...
متن کاملJoint Design of RFID Reader and Tag Anti-Collision Algorithms: A Cross-Layer Approach
This paper investigates the potential interactions between reader and tag anti-collision algorithms of passive RFID (radio frequency identification) systems. Conventionally, reader and tag anti-collision algorithms are designed by assuming that they are independent from each other. In practice, however, readers and tags usually operate in the same frequency band. Therefore, contention between t...

This paper proposes miniature radio frequency identification (RFID) tag antenna designed to operate on metallic objects, in the UHF frequency range (915MHz), without significantly degrading its read range. The antenna structure is composed of two parts: Part 1 comprises two square patches electrically connected to the ground plane through vias while Part 2 is an unconnected inter-layer consisti...
